The wonderful growers, farmers, fishmongers and butchers we use share our vision and passion in providing ingredients of the highest standard that are produced ethically with a sensitive approach to sustainability, good husbandry and reducing food miles. Listed here are some of the suppliers whose produce you can expect to see on your course.

Dartmoor butchers offer a brilliant range of locally produced meat, sourced from local farms in and around the Dartmoor area. As well as being offering almost any cut of beef, lamb, pork or poultry you might need, they also sell a large selection of delicious burgers, sausages, pies and pasties all made on site.

Daniel and Elaine were both brought up in farming families and started rearing turkeys on their small farm only for the christmas period. The quality of their poultry and their ethical farming standards are outstanding and they won a Gold food award in 2012. They now produce free-range turkeys, ducks, chickens and beef all year round.

Providing local beef and lamb, their meat is hung on their premisis for a week before being cut by highly skilled butchers.

With a simple ethos: “to provide top quality, traceable meats using traditional butchery methods whilst supporting the local farming community and West Country suppliers”, Gribble’s ensures that all their meat comes from animals reared in accordance with the highest standards of animal welfare and are slaughtered humanely and locally, keeping down ‘food miles’. Owner, Mark, is passionate about supporting local famers and the local economy and has forged strong connections with all his suppliers. Gribble’s are winners of the Taste of the West 2008 award.

A joint farming and butchering business established in 1880, Warrens “dry age” and mature their meat the traditional way on the bone. They also work closely with many other small farmers who farm the margins of Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor and throughout the grasslands of the Tamar Valley. Warren’s are committed to providing a unique product of consistently high quality but reasonable price and specialise in suckled native breeds, from Red Devon’s to true Aberdeen Angus. They are one of the very few butchers in the South West to have been awarded Q Guild status, which recognises them as leading quality butchers in the UK.

Paul and Carolyn Bellinger of Fine Country Lifestyle are dedicated to rearing their Oxford Sandy & Black, Gloucester Old Spot and Kune-Kune rarebreed pigs. A free- rage lifestyle and varied, entirely natural diet ensures that their slowly reared pigs provide the most delicious meat. The Bellinger’s also specialise in producing traditional artisan charcuterie and grow a wide variety of fruit, vegetables, salad leaves and edible flowers. They are Taste of the West award winners.

The Fish Deli owners, Nick and Michele, care deeply about marine conservation and sourcing their fish sustainably from local day boats. Alongside fresh fish, they sell a wide range of locally produced deli goods and a beautiful collection of fish-inspired cookware. The Fish Deli was short listed for Independent Seafood Retailer of the year in 2009 and won a Taste of the West award in 2008.

Supplying quality crabs, lobster, hand dived scallops, mussels and line caught fish, The Seafood House have owned their own fishing boats for over 27 years. Although crab, spider crab and lobster are not a precious stock species, The Seafood House are fully committed to sustainable fishing methods, using pots that enable unsuitable catches to be returned to sea alive and which do not damage the seabed.

Fish suppliers, Kingfisher Brixham, source their fish from sustainable sources in Brixham, Plymouth, Looe and Newley and trade some of the finest produce in the West Country. Local sourcing means fresher fish that is fully traceable. Kingfisher Brixham are committed to maintaining their A Grade British Retail Consortium (BRC) certificate, which they have held every year since 2001 and they work closely with the Marine Stewardship Council to develop and market sustainable alternatives.

Flying Fish Seafoods source the highest quality fish direct from Cornwall’s top fishermen as well as local markets in Looe, Brixham, Newlyn and Plymouth, with speciality products coming from Scotland and Rungis market in Paris. They are suppliers to some of the finest establishments in Britain – all testament to their meticulous selection of only the finest quality, sustainably sourced fish. Flying Fish Seafoods are committed to rigorously following industry practices to ensure fish stocks are maintained.

Over 50 years of dedicated service throughout the South West has seen Steers Greengrocer build up a vast network of West Country growers. Steers are dedicated to following their company ethos, selling principally locally sourced produce. Their turnover of local produce is greater than any other independent fruit and vegetable retailer in the county.

The Husbandry School offers a wide range of traditional, sustainable gardening, farming and land management courses and cares deeply about heritage values when it comes to looking after the land. They supply us with nutritious and extraordinary produce including specialist herbs and beautiful edible flowers. Their produce list also includes an array of unusual, heritage vegetables and berries. The Husbandry School are affiliated members of the Wholesome Food Association.

Riverford Organic Dairy produce and package all their milk, cream, yoghurt and butter on site. Farmed under organic guidelines ensures their products contain less chemicals and antibiotics than non-organic dairy.

Country Cheeses sell in the region of a hundred different British cheeses, most of which are from the West Country. It is their mission to encourage consumers to sample the wide variety of stunning artisan cheeses available, helping them grow to appreciate the quality and unsurpassed taste of local and traditionally produced cheese.

Just as their motto suggests, ‘putting the chicken before the egg’, is exactly what Laydilay do best. They care deeply for the welfare of their hens, provide them with a high quality diet of scratch wheat and vegetables and allow free access to pasture from dawn until dusk. By putting plenty of feed onto the range, they encourage the hens to roam outside in the daylight as much as possible. By putting the chicken’s welfare first, it truly is the tastiest eggs that follow!

Their extensive cheese collection showcases the finest Devon cheeses as well as the very best in continental cheese.

Traditional delicatessen selling a wide selection of quality products from the West Country including cheeses, wines, cold meats, pâtés and even personal birthday cakes made by local Swiss baker. Freshly baked French bread and pastries as well as speciality international foods are also available.

Bell & Loxton grow, press and bottle their award winning cold pressed rapeseed oil on their farm in South Devon. Naturally rich in omega 3, 6 & 9 and containing less than half the saturated fat of olive oil, rapeseed oil is a delicious, healthy alternative to other culinary oils. Local production also means far fewer food miles compared with Mediterranean counterparts, an important concern for owner and keen environmentalist Jonathan Bell. Recent winners of the Taste of the West 2012 award.

Shaldon Bakery are a bespoke craft bakery, selling products based on over 60 years of bakery expertise and using recipes handed down and nurtured over generations. With two top Master bakers creating everything fresh on the premises daily, they pride themselves on quality and consistency as well as great value.

Local forager David Beazley is an expert when it comes to locating, identifying and
