Your Tutor in the Garden at Buckland in the Moor

Charles Staniland has been growing organically here for nearly 30 years and supplies many leading chefs in the Devon area including Michael Caines (Gidleigh Park) and Duncan Walker (22 Mill St). He has been a horticultural instructor for the Agricultural Training Board, Yarner Trust, Bicton College. He holds the City & Guilds Teaching Certificate and NVQ assessor qualifications (as do all our Tutors) as well as a vast amount of teaching experience alongside his own successful market garden specialising in herbs, salads and fruit.

You will practice in the restored Victorian greenhouses, and outside alongside the crops for sale with the aim of developing an approach that suits you and your space available. So it might be raising herbs in pots or sowing baby carrots in the soil. – ‘ cut and come again - successional sowing - claytonia…’ Sessions to suit a beginner or gardeners of some experience.
