Knife Skills
One-day cookery course
Do you have chef's knives at home but no idea how to use them? Or have you got excellent cooking skills but feel hampered by your lack of knife skills? Using knives skillfully is absolutely essential for preparation, yet this is often ignored and we find many people wanting to improve have neither the correct knife set, nor know how to care for, sharpen or select knives.
We have planned the course from the correct selection and care of knives, through to a wide range of culinary techniques such as segmenting, turning, boning, filleting, julienne, macedone, creating mirepoix, as well as reinforcing the artistry and skills that provide the foundation for success in the kitchen.
Our Knife Skills course will teach you the basics, including:
- which knife to use for each task
- how to use knives with confidence whilst learning classic chopping, dicing, cutting and slicing
- knife safety and speed
- basic garnishing
We provide excellent Messermeister chefs and paring knives for use in the class, and should you with to purchase a knife set for yourself in advance, or on the day, you may order a new 5 knife set plus steel and wallet at a reduced price.
