Top Chefs on show at the Ashburton Food & Drink Festival This free food festival will offer something for everyone with plenty of fine Devon produce to taste, street entertainment and around forty local specialist food producers taking part.
At the heart of the festival is the Cookery Theatre where chefs will be showcasing their skills. Ashburton Cookery School's chef director Darrin Hosegrove has arranged for celebrity chefs and TV & radio personalities to entertain the audience throughout the day.
The event will be opened by BBC Radio Devon's David Fitzgerald and effervescent TV wine celebrity, Susy Atkins will be on stage to guide proceedings.
Highlights at the Cookery Theatre include James Knight-Pacheco from BBC's 'The Restaurant' and 'Out of the Frying Pan' series going head-to-head with BBC MasterChef 2010 winner Dhruv Baker in an entertaining 'cook-off'.
Chris and James Tanner, from the renowned Tanner's Restaurant in Plymouth, will be showing us their culinary magic and local celebrity chef, Peter Gorton will take-on Ashburton's Darrin Hosegrove in another cooking challenge.
To add to the fun there will also be food tastings, and the chance to sample some of Devon' finest ales and ciders, specialty meats and preserves.
Ashburton Cookery School's Chef Director, Darrin Hosegrove says that the festival will be both fun and inspiring and allow visitors to see the best of what Devon has to offer in terms of cooking skills and local produce;
"Ashburton Cookery School has championed local Devon food producers for many years, so it is great that the festival will reflect the amazing range of fine organic producers that we have here. Devon is also home to some nationally renowned chefs and the festival will be a chance to see them up close and in action. The chefs from Ashburton Cookery School will also be playing a major part in the festival and taking part in live cookery demonstrations."
